Issue: Education
Ekpoki Naomi Onesenema started an NGO aimed at helping children from financially challenged backgrounds go through school comfortably with all their needs met. She is a very influential person and she has many wonderful leadership traits. She is also an inspiration to everyone she meets. Ekpoki aspires to put an end to child poverty and put an end to out of school children.
Naomi believes every child has a right to good formal education and wants to eradicate the number of school drop outs and the number of children hawking on the streets or involved in child trafficking and child labor. She also wants to send all the children in Internally Displaced People’s Camp’s that have suffered from the terrorist attacks in the northern region of Nigeria back to school. Naomi’s goal is to finally have a world where indigent children live free of poverty and have access to formal education, thereby making a positive impact on the society.
Naomi’s organization gives out scholarships and pays the registration fees for national exams for children who cannot afford the fees. She has also conducted several outreach efforts to reach out to children in orphanages and other less privileged children in her community. Through her outreach, she provides educational materials, food, and other necessary items to the children. She also inspires other young people to be a part of community service by taking some of them along with her for her outreach activities. She is also actively involved in raising awareness about the plight of indigent children by involving other young people to raise a voice for them through their photos and other acts of kindness.
Naomi has reached about 1300 children through her work. Through donations from partners, she helped pay exam fees of two girls in her community. Both are now enrolled in the local university. Naomi is also a motivational speaker and has motivated many young people to stay focused in school and work hard and aim for success.
